Posted by SOOS CREEK DENTAL on Aug 10 2021, 06:01 AM

Dental bonding can help fix chipped, cracked, or gapped teeth. Read on to learn more about the advantages of this procedure we offer at Soos Creek Dental in Covington, Washington.

What Is Dental Bonding?

Bonding is a cosmetic dental procedure that uses tooth-colored resin to improve the appearance of gapped, chipped, broken, or stained teeth.

Bonding is used in:

  • treating decayed, chipped or cracked, discolored, or badly stained teeth
  • fixing tooth gaps
  • reshaping teeth
  • as an alternative to amalgam fillings
  • protecting the tooth root, exposed due to a receding gum

Dental Bonding Procedure

To prepare the tooth for bonding, our dentists use anesthesia only if the procedure includes treatment for a decayed tooth if there is a chip near the nerve, or when drilling is required for reshaping the tooth.

Next, using a shade guide, our dentists will select the composite resin material to be used for bonding.

Our dentists then prepare the tooth surface by applying a conditioning liquid that will help the material bond with the tooth. Our dentists will shape the bonding material and then harden it using a bright light or laser.

Lastly, polish is applied to give the tooth a natural shine.

The procedure takes about 30 minutes per tooth.

Benefits of Bonding

The benefits of dental bonding include:

  • It improves the appearance of the teeth in no time.
  • It is a minimally invasive procedure.
  • It provides a perfect and natural look for your smile.
  • It is safe and acts as a protective shield for your natural teeth.

Dental Bonding Aftercare

To help your dental bonding last longer:

  • Brush your teeth twice a day using fluoride toothpaste and replace your toothbrush every three to four months.
  • Floss properly above the gum line to remove all the plaque accumulations.
  • Drink water after every meal to keep your mouth clean and eliminate bacteria.
  • Avoid foods that cause tooth stains.
